Improving Your Home’s Value!

Anacortes House Values

Improving the value of your home

Spending Money on Your Home Might Not Increase the Value of your Home!

Spring is here, and that often spurs home improvement projects.

Property values have historically risen and real estate will continue to be one of the best long term investments most people make. If you are thinking of making any modifications to your Skagit County home however, you may want to consider how those changes will affect your home’s equity.  Not all remodels add value to a home, and in fact some can actually hurt resale value such as converting a single car garage to a family room.

Remodeling kitchen and bathrooms is one of the best ways to add value.  Adding a deck also tend to be one of the best payoffs in areas with water views such as Anacortes. Shelter Bay,  Bayview, homes around Eaglemont…you get the idea.  Landscaping will help your home sell faster, but may not add value.  If the landscaping is very high maintenance it may actually decrease the value in markets such as Anacortes and La Conner where the average age of a home buyer is higher.

If you are considering making changes to your home, feel free to call us and we will be happy to discuss how those changes might affect your home’s value.

If you would like to keep informed of the real estate market we post market trends and statistics monthly on our website for Anacortes, Bow, La Conner, Oak Harbor, San Juan Islands, and Skagit County.  We can break this information down by price range, waterfront, view homes etc. for each city and automatically email it to you each month if you would like.  We can provide this information free anywhere in Western Washington, just give us a call or send an email!

Please also remember we are always looking for referral business so remember to call us or email us if your friends or family are contemplating a real estate transaction.  If it is an area we do not serve, we can recommend an excellent real estate agent to you!

Look out matey, “Pirates” be invadin’ Anacortes!

Your first question most likely is, “Pirates in Anacortes?  You’re joking right?”  Well hey, if you don’t believe it, come on down to Cap Sante Boat Haven August 13th-15th for some good ol’ pirate fun!  Open to all NW cruisers, the 2010 NW Latitudes & Attitudes Cruiser’s Party will be held at Cap Sante Boat Haven in Anacortes.

This will be the NW Cruisers 9th Annual Latitudes & Attitudes get together, completely organized by local fans and readers of the monthly International cruising magazine. The event typically moves to a new Puget Sound location each year. “We expect more than 120 boats and upwards of 1,000 people,” explained Bob Bitchin, Publisher of the magazine. “We throw six to seven of these cruiser’s parties around the country, mostly at the national boat shows. But this one is different as the local readers put it all together.”

The event activities are designed mostly for the whole family. To kick off the event on Friday there will be a barbecue hosted by Anacortes West Marine.  For the adults later that evening , a pub-crawl featuring many of the town’s favorite watering holes will take place.  Others can sit back and relax on their boat while enjoying a cruiser’s concert with music on the dock by a northwest favorite, Dave Calhoun.  Saturday’s activities consist of a potluck on the dock, blind fold dingy races, and children’s events including a treasure hunt and young pirate training.  Later on in the evening, the Pirate Ball will  be held, with music by Eric Stone.  The event is free to all that attend.  But anyone can buy raffle tickets; the Grand Prize is a one-week charter on a Sunsail sailboat in the Caribbean.

Local Anacortes and Puget Sound merchants will be donating even more booty, adding loot to the raffle drawing. Part of the proceeds of the raffle will benefit a great local non-profit group, The Sea Scouts.  So mark your calendars for a fun filled weekend, come on down with the whole family and party like a pirate!
