Are You Ready To Own Your First Home? (Part 2)

Agent Handshake 3

Last week we shared with you Part 1 of : “What to consider when buying a home”. We went over the first steps to take before looking for your dream home in Anacortes or Skagit County. ¬†So now you found your dream home for sale and are ready to make an offer. Now what? Here is Part 2…

Making and Submitting an Offer

Once you’ve found your dream home for sale, your Jean Groesbeck & Associates LLC  real estate broker will  complete a purchase and sale agreement to make an offer to buy your perfect home.  We will walk you through financing, insurance, title and escrow companies, and all that goes into making an offer. Your real estate broker will then present the offer to the listing agent or directly with the seller in person if possible.  Once your offer is accepted, the purchase and loan process begins.

Escrow

A lot is involved in this step, but don’t worry. We’re here to help you!  This is when financing, home appraisal, inspections, and possible further negotiations occur.  You usually will sign closing documents prior to the day of closing at the escrow company of your choice. As closing day gets near, you will have begin to plan your move with ample time.

Moving

Moving is a process that often takes much longer than people expect.  Will you move yourself, or hire movers?  Will you be bringing every piece of furniture you own?  Make sure it will fit in the new spaces.  Consider having a yard sale!  Your real estate broker will give you moving tips and if available a checklist for moving. This will make moving so much easier and stress free!

Closing

On the day of closing you usually get the keys by 9 PM  unless something different is specified in purchase and sale agreement. This day you are officially a home owner and now it’s time to move into your new dream home!

We will do everything we can to make the home buying process as easy as possible. We want to make your home buying experience enjoyable and the transaction flawless!  We believe that purchasing a new home should be fun and you deserve to have the best local real estate broker that can make this happen.

Call, text or email us anytime with any questions you have on buying a new home in Anacortes, Whidbey Island or Skagit County. We are here to help!

New Residential Efficiency Program

On February 22, from 2:30 to 5:00 pm, Skagit County’s Sustainability Office will host an open house to kickoff the Skagit County Community Energy Challenge (“SCEC”). ¬†This ¬†program was designed to encourage and facilitate residential energy efficiency.

This program will help homeowners achieve energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction,  and creation of wildlife habitat.

The program will provide a home energy assessment and report which will show homeowners opportunities on how to lower their home bills through insulation, air sealing, and other measures.  The assessment, normally valued at $500-$600, will only cost the homeowner $95, and is the only cost for this program.   The remainder of the cost is being funded by a grant to Skagit County from the U.S. Department of Energy through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The SCEC provides valuable information to homeowners on how to make their home more sustainable (including rebate and incentive programs), and the necessary steps to make these recommended improvements.

The open house will be held in the lobby of the Skagit County Commissioners Administrative Building located at 1800 Continental Place in Mount Vernon.  Those interested in attending the program can email SkagitCEC@co.skagit.wa.us or call (360) 419-7607.

Why I Like Samish Island . . .

Dunlins on Samish Island

This morning as I made the drive from Anacortes to a waterfront home I recently sold on Samish Island, there was free entertainment in abundance.  One of the highlights was watching one of our shore birds, probably Dunlins, flock together and take to flight, swooping in synchronized waves alongside the road.  I had to stop and try to capture the magic, definitely one of the perks of selling homes in this beautiful part of Washington state.

Samish Island, about 30 minutes from Anacortes, is a world-renowned bird-watching area.  In my short trip today, bald eagle and great blue heron were also out in abundance.

If you would like to know more about Samish Island, or homes for sale in the area, please give me a call at (360) 202-8888.
